Hope in God — your standing in Christ is secure.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Psalm 42:5:
“Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.”
Take a few minutes to read Psalm 42.
There are seasons when discouragement settles in, and we quietly wonder whether God has forgotten us. David knew that feeling. He didn’t hide his sorrow, and he didn’t accuse God. He simply brought his discouragement to the Lord with honesty.
David looked to God for comfort by placing his hope in Him.
This hope wasn’t a vague wish that things might improve.
It was a confident assurance rooted in God’s lovingkindness — His covenantal, steadfast love.
As members of the Body of Christ, we stand on even greater certainty.
God loved you and called you by His sovereign grace.
Jesus Christ shed His blood for the full forgiveness of your sins.
He rose bodily so you might stand righteous before God.
And the Holy Spirit indwells you, remaining with you through every step of this earthly journey.
So, dear brothers and sisters, when discouragement whispers that God has forgotten you, remember who you are in Christ.
You belong to the Body of Christ by faith in the glorious gospel of grace.
Your standing is secure.
Your future is settled.
Your hope rests in the God who cannot lie.
Let us, like David, speak truth to our souls and anchor our hearts in the promises of God — promises that will carry us all the way home to heaven.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Ps 42:5.
Meditation:
Lord, steady my heart today in the unchanging truths of who I am in Christ. Help me speak truth to my soul when discouragement rises.
Reflection Question:
Where do you need to remind your heart of God’s faithfulness instead of listening to your fears?
