Faith steadies confidence.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 5:7:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Paul writes, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
This simple statement reminds us why the believer can live with confidence.
Our confidence does not rise from what we see,
but from what God has made known in His Word rightly divided.
Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, understood this simple principle.
He lived in a world filled with pressure and uncertainty,
yet his confidence held firm because he was walking by faith —
not by the shifting conditions around him.
His relationship with the believers in Corinth testified to that reality.
They were spiritually immature, had many divisions between members,
and even at times rejected Paul’s ministry to them.
Nevertheless, Paul’s faith in Christ’s calling kept him steadfast and confident,
that by the power and guidance of the indwelling Holy Spirit
he would fulfill his calling even among those wayward believers.
Dear brothers and sisters, this is the heart of Paul’s message:
Confidence grows as faith leads the way.
When we walk by sight, we let conditions shape our confidence.
But when we walk by faith, we let Christ define it.
Faith does not ignore what is real;
it sees the realities of life in the light of God's promises.
Our faith does not lessen the hardships of life. Instead, it steadies us with the understanding that the struggles of this life are temporary.
The Holy Spirit of truth assures us, and we hold onto the reality that one day we will be at home in heaven with our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
So when Paul says, “we walk by faith,”
he is inviting us to live with a confidence
that is rooted in Christ’s promise and not in the instability of sight.
Paul gives the same assurance in Galatians 5:5:
“For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.”
Your way is clear when faith directs your steps. So then, let faith interpret your circumstances, remind you of your identity in Christ, and steady your heart when sight feels overwhelming.
Walk by faith today, and let your confidence rest in your identity in Christ.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), 2 Co 5:7.
Meditation:
Holy Spirit, teach me to walk by faith and not by sight today.
Reflection Question:
Where is sight weakening your confidence today, and how can faith help you rest in what God has promised?
