Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Psalm 118:9:
“It is better to trust in the LORD
Than to put confidence in man.”
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of where our true security lies. In this Psalm, David expresses his deep confidence in the LORD. The opening verses of Psalm 118 explain why he chooses to place his trust in God rather than in earthly leaders or princes. He trusts the LORD because the LORD is unfailingly faithful. While people and leaders may fail, God never has and never will. This unwavering faithfulness is the foundation for David’s trust, and he calls upon Israel to remember and rely on all that the LORD has done for them.
Although we are in a different dispensation, as members of the Body of Christ, we can share in David’s trust. David demonstrated his faith and obedience to the LORD by adhering to the Law of Moses and believing in God’s enduring promises. Similarly, we express our faith and dedication to the LORD through our belief in the gospel of grace given to us by Paul, as well as through following the guidance of the Holy Spirit who resides within us. Moreover, we have assurance from God’s Word that we are secure by faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross. This security provides us with a sure and lasting hope in our God who never fails.
Dear brothers and sisters, while participating in society, staying informed about national debates, and making our voices heard through voting are aspects of life, we must remember not to place our trust in human efforts or leaders, whether spiritual or political. Our genuine trust should always be in the LORD, who has been, is, and will always be our trustworthy and consistent source of security.
In what areas of your life are you tempted to place your trust in human solutions rather than in the LORD’s unfailing faithfulness?
