Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Proverbs 15:1:

“A soft answer turns away wrath,

But a harsh word stirs up anger.”

This proverb is easy to recite but challenging to put into practice. Many of us have experienced moments when we say something and immediately wish we could retract it, but unfortunately, there is no “back button” for our words. As James wrote, “But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). Our words can have a lasting impact, and learning to control the tongue is a lifelong challenge.

Dear brothers and sisters, let us be quick to listen and slow to speak. To tame our tongues, we must rely on the Holy Spirit, seeking His power and guidance in our daily interactions. I recognize my need for His guidance, as I often fall short.

Everyone occasionally says things that are foolish or hurtful. When we do say something harsh, it is essential to seek restoration if possible. Paul encourages us, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32). Let us strive to pursue what is good and avoid what is evil. Forgiveness itself is a kind gesture that can heal and restore relationships.

The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Pr 15:1.

Reflection: Although it is difficult to control our tongues, let us strive to choose gentle speech and seek forgiveness when we fail.
