Christ is coming — and He is coming for His Body.

Good morning. 1 Thessalonians 4:13: “But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.”

Take a moment to read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. In these verses, God offers deep comfort to the Body of Christ. The Thessalonians were facing persecution and confusion from false teachings. Some of their loved ones had died, which left them with hard questions.
Would their loved ones miss the Lord’s return?
Would they be left behind when Christ gathers His Body to Himself?

Paul writes with tenderness and authority:
I do not want you to be ignorant. I do not want you to grieve without hope.
Hope is at the center of this passage. It is not just wishful thinking, but a confident expectation based on what Christ has done.

Paul begins with the foundation: "If we believe that Jesus died and rose again…" This is the gospel of grace and our assurance. This is the reason we do not grieve as the world sorrows.
Because Christ rose, those who sleep in Him will rise.
Because Christ lives, those who belong to Him will live also.

Then Paul reveals a truth “by the word of the Lord,” a mystery not known before. When Christ comes for His Body:
• the dead in Christ will rise first
• then we who are alive and remain
• shall be caught up together with them
• to meet the Lord in the air

Caught up.
Snatched away.
Taken upward by the power of God.
This is the same departure Paul spoke of in 2 Thessalonians 2.
This is the blessed hope of Titus 2.
This is the comfort of the Body of Christ.

And notice where we meet Him:
in the air.
Not on the earth.
Not in Jerusalem.
Not in judgment.
This is not the Second Coming. This is the gathering of the Body of Christ.

Paul ends with a simple command:
“Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
Not frighten.
Not speculate.
Not despair.
Comfort.

Dear brothers and sisters, whether we live or die,
stand or sleep, watch or wait, we will be with the Lord forever.

This is our hope.
This is our confidence.
This is our comfort in a shaking world.

Meditation:
Let your heart rest in this promise: the Lord Himself will come for you. Not an angel. Not a messenger. The Lord. And you will be with Him forever.

Reflection Question:
How does the certainty of being caught up to meet the Lord in the air reshape your grief, your fears, and your daily walk?
