Grace saves. Grace keeps. Grace holds.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verses are Ephesians 2:8–9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Salvation begins where human effort ends. Paul doesn’t leave room for mixture, contribution, or performance. He takes the entire weight of salvation off the believer and places it squarely on the grace of God.
Grace is not God helping you improve.
Grace is not God rewarding your sincerity.
Grace is not God meeting you halfway.
Grace is God doing all of it — fully, freely, and forever.
Paul makes it clear that this salvation, given by grace and received through faith, is God’s gift. None of it comes from us—not the grace, not the faith, not the salvation. Everything Paul describes is God’s work from start to finish.
Dear brothers and sisters, if salvation depended on us, we would never feel at peace. Our confidence would change with our actions, and our assurance would always feel uncertain. But Paul takes away every reason to fear by taking away every reason to boast.
“Not of yourselves… not of works.”
Not even a little.
Not even at the beginning.
Not even as a contribution.
Salvation is a gift, not something we earn, deserve, or achieve. A gift depends completely on the giver, not the receiver. Since God is the one who gives it, our salvation is as secure as He is.
Grace saves you.
Grace keeps you.
Grace holds you.
God is the one who starts the work and the one who completes it. When you stand in His grace, you are standing on ground that cannot be shaken.
Today, breathe deeply in this truth:
You are saved by grace alone — allowing Him to do what the flesh never can.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Eph 2:8–9.
Meditation:
Let this settle into your heart: My salvation is God’s work from beginning to end. I rest in what Christ has done, not in what I can do.
Reflection Question:
Where have you been tempted to measure your standing with God by your performance instead of His grace?
