Paul continues describing the actions and attitudes
that should define a believer who seeks to live out the gospel of grace.

Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Romans 12:14:
“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.”

This verse is often misunderstood
and sometimes used
to blur the message of grace.

Some claim Paul’s words mean
we must accept mistreatment
without response.
They pair this verse
with Jesus’ instruction in Matthew 5:39—
“turn the other cheek”—
and conclude that believers
should passively endure anything.

But such an application comes from
failing to rightly divide the Word.

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount
was spoken to Israel—
revealing God’s holiness
and calling them to repentance
as a kingdom of priests.

Paul, however, writes
to the Body of Christ
in this present dispensation of grace.

His instruction here
is not about passivity—
when confronted egregiously,
it is about posture.

He is shaping
how grace‑taught believers respond
when they are opposed,
misunderstood,
or mistreated.

Dear brothers and sisters,
what is Paul teaching us
as believers?
What does it mean
to “bless and not curse”?

It means our response
to opposition or misunderstanding
must reflect Christ in us.

Not retaliation.
Not bitterness.
Not speaking ill
of others especially
fellow members of His Body—
even when they speak ill of you
and misinterpret the message
of salvation by grace through faith alone.

Manifesting this attitude is a mark
of our sanctification
and growth in the wisdom
and knowledge of God.

Meditation:
Blessing those who oppose us is not weakness—
it is grace in motion. It is Christ’s life overcoming the impulses of the flesh
and shaping our response with His strength.

Reflection Question:
Where is the Lord inviting you today to bless rather than curse?
