The old nature no longer defines you — your identity in Christ does.

Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Colossians 3:5: “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

Please take a few minutes and read Colossians 3:5-7.

We live in a world shaped by immorality, wickedness, and deception.
Those apart from Christ remain bound by sin and alienated from God.
But for the believer, everything has changed.
Our standing is new — and so is our walk.

Paul reminds us that the sinful nature no longer has dominion over us.
We once walked in these things, but we no longer belong to them.
Through faith alone in the finished work of Christ, we have been forgiven, redeemed, and made alive.

Our salvation is by grace alone —
not grace plus repentance, baptism, church attendance, or any religious performance. Faith in the gospel of grace has given us eternal life and right standing before God.

Because of this new identity, we are free to say “NO” to sin and “YES” to God.
We are not subservient to the impulses of the old nature.
We are members of the Body of Christ, called to live differently than the world around us.

Paul’s command to “put to death” is a call to consider the desires of the old nature as dead.
It is a deliberate, Spirit‑empowered choice to treat the old nature as dead — because God says it is.

We reject what no longer belongs to us.
We walk according to who we are in Christ, not who we were in Adam.

This is not always easy.
The world pulls.
The flesh resists.
But the Holy Spirit strengthens us to walk in the newness of life.

So then, dear brothers and sisters, let us put to death the sinful desires of the earthly nature.
Let us walk in the freedom grace provides.
Let us live according to God’s will and not according to the impulses of the old man.

We are new. We are forgiven. We are free.

Meditation:
Heavenly Father, help me walk in the freedom You have given me. Strengthen me to put to death the old ways and rest in the grace of who I am in Christ.

Reflection Question:
What habit or reaction of the old nature is the Holy Spirit showing you to put away today?
