Psalm 74 was written from within Israel’s covenant history during a time of national devastation, likely after the sanctuary had been destroyed. The psalmist was crying out for God to judge Israel’s enemies and restore His people according to His promises to them. We should not place the Body of Christ into Israel’s prophetic program, yet we may still receive the enduring truth this lament displays: God remains sovereign, His reign is unshaken, and His salvation is sure.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verses are Psalm 74:11-12: “Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? Take it out of Your bosom and destroy them. For God is my King from of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.”Body
Some days, God’s silence can feel heavier than the noise around us.
There are seasons when God’s people look at the chaos
and conflict around them and wonder why He does not intervene.
The psalmist gives voice to that ache, and his words still echo in the hearts of believers who long to see righteousness prevail.
Psalm 74 is a lament born out of national distress.
The psalmist looks upon devastation, injustice, and the triumph of enemies,
and he cries out,
“Why do You hold back Your hand?”
It is the plea of a believer who longs for God to act visibly and decisively.
Yet the psalm does not remain in despair. It turns toward a deeper anchor:
“But God is my King from long ago.”
The psalmist does not find peace in changing the circumstances.
He finds peace in the unchanging reign of God.
The enemy may rage,
but God's heart for His people is not removed.
Dear brothers and sisters, we live in a contentious and combative age.
Violence, division, and moral collapse press on every side.
God’s people suffer, families strain, and society mocks what is holy.
Like the psalmist, we long for God to restrain wickedness and restore justice.
But true peace is not found in the cessation of conflict.
It is found in the gospel of grace, by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
Though the world is in chaos, we have peace from guilt, peace in contentment, peace in justification by faith.
God is God,
and His ways are not our ways.
His timing is not our timing.
But His reign is sure, His salvation secure, and His promises to the Body of Christ stand firm.
Paul gives us an anchor for this present age: “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way” (2 Thessalonians 3:16, NKJV).
Dear friend, know this:
When God seems silent and evil appears unchecked, do not lose heart.
Rest in the God who rules over all. Rest in His unchanging authority as it steadies your soul. Allow His grace to anchor your peace, and may His faithfulness quiet your fears.
