You don’t strive for a position.
You live from the heavenly position already secured in Christ.
A position and destiny different from Israel
Good morning. Today’s Bible verses are Ephesians 1:3; 2:6: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ… And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
Truth to Consider
Today, we come to Ephesians 1:3 and 2:6, where Paul points us to our heavenly calling. This is different from Israel’s calling and is grounded completely in our union with Christ. Israel’s promises were earthly—land, kingdom, nation, and throne. But in Paul’s epistles, God makes known a different destiny for the Body of Christ: every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, and a present position in Christ above.
Paul doesn’t begin by giving instructions.
He begins by reminding you where you already are.
You are in Christ.
And because you are in Him, you share His heavenly position.
1. Already blessed with every spiritual blessing
Paul writes that God “has blessed us” with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. In other words, this is not something God is gradually adding to or will complete later. The moment you believed the gospel of grace, this became true of you in Christ.
God didn’t bless you halfway or leave anything for later.
Every spiritual blessing is already yours in Christ.
This is not the language of Israel’s covenants.
It is the language of the new creation in Christ.
2. A heavenly position, not an earthly program
Israel’s hope was tied to the earth—land, kingdom, and a restored throne in Jerusalem. Our hope and calling are different. We are blessed “in the heavenly places in Christ,” and Ephesians 2:6 says God has already “made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
Scripture doesn’t say we will be seated.
It says we are seated.
Right now, in God’s sight, you share Christ’s heavenly position. You may not always feel that to be true, but God has declared it to be so. This belongs to the mystery revealed through Paul: our calling is heavenly, not earthly.
3. We live from position, not toward it
Many believers agree with today’s verses in theory, yet still live as though they must earn their way into God’s favor. They keep striving, feeling uncertain, and measuring their standing by performance, emotions, or failures. But Paul’s point is not just that you have a position in Christ—it is that you are meant to live from that position every day.
You’re not trying to earn acceptance anymore.
God has already given it, and you live from that settled reality.
Your past, your performance, and your present circumstances do not define you. Your life is defined by where God has placed you—in Christ, in the heavenlies.
4. A heavenly calling that guides daily life
This heavenly calling is not something distant or theoretical. It shapes how you face daily temptation, fear, pressure, and spiritual conflict. You’re not struggling to gain a position with God. He has already given you one, in Christ. And because of that, you can respond not as someone seeking acceptance, but as someone already “accepted in the Beloved.”
When your mind drifts back to an earthbound identity—failure, comparison, instability—bring it back to this truth:
“I am seated with Christ. That is where my life is anchored.”
You’re reminding yourself of something God has already said is true—not something you’re trying to feel, and not something you’re still trying to reach.

Meditation:
Father, thank You that in Christ I am already blessed and already seated with Him. Help me to remember that today, and to live from what You have already made true of me in Your Son.
Reflection Question:
How does knowing you are already seated with Christ in the heavenlies change the way you face today’s pressures and decisions?
