Moses wrote these words to remind Israel of God’s covenant faithfulness — that He blesses obedience, disciplines disobedience, and never abandons His people. In this age of grace, God’s promises to the Body of Christ are rooted in His unchanging character and the finished work of the risen Christ.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Deuteronomy 7:9: “Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments…”
Today’s passage reminds us of something every believer needs to know deep in their heart: God keeps His promises.
Have you ever had someone promise they would do something for you, but in the end, they didn’t come through?
We all have.
And if we’re honest, we’ve all failed to keep every promise we’ve made.
But God never fails.
That is why Moses spoke these words to the nation of Israel — to remind them that God would keep His covenant with them.
He promised to bless them and keep them if they obeyed the Law given to them, but if they disobeyed, He would discipline them,
but He would never abandon them.
This reveals an important truth about our God:
He is faithful and trustworthy.
And should His people be found untrustworthy, He fulfills His promises
because of who He is.
Dear brothers and sisters, in this present age of grace, God has given us promises we can count on with absolute certainty.
Though we do not claim the same promises as the nation Israel, we have special promises.
We have the promise of the rapture, the out-calling of the Body of Christ:
“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Co 15:51–52, NKJV).
Another promise is that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can endure but will always provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).
So how can we be sure God will keep us until Jesus comes for us?
How can we know He will care for us when temptation and trial come our way?
Because God is God.
He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
He cannot lie and will always keep His promise.
He will keep His promises to Israel, and He will keep His promises to us.
So then, dear believer, have faith in Him.
Trust in Him, for He will never let you down.
Let the faithfulness of God steady your heart today.
Know this: He keeps His promises, and He keeps His people.
