Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Ecclesiastes 1:14: “I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.”
The prevailing attitude in our world is often summed up by the phrase “More, more, more.” Advertisers frequently promote the idea that accumulating possessions leads to greater life satisfaction. In the workplace, employers may urge employees to dedicate longer hours in the pursuit of higher income, ultimately boosting the company’s profits. Similarly, social media platforms attract users to spend increasing amounts of time reading, posting, and interacting, to ensure advertisers continue to invest in their platforms.
However, as the writer of Ecclesiastes observes, the relentless quest for more does not bring true fulfillment. He likens it to “striving after the wind”—a futile effort to grasp something unattainable. In contrast, quietness is not a tangible possession, but an internal attitude—a sense of peace and contentment—that must be nurtured and developed within oneself.
Dear brothers and sisters, we are called to take care of our families, and we must work towards that goal. There’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting a nice home and reliable transportation. However, seeking fulfillment solely through work, relationships, and material possessions is ultimately futile for our sanctification. So then, let’s set aside time to cultivate an intentional quietness. Consider spending a few moments in meditation on today’s verse and reflecting on the contentment you find in your relationship with God. Allow yourself to enjoy some peaceful time in prayer, expressing gratitude to God for the many blessings in your life. As a member of the Body of Christ, do not exhaust yourself chasing worldly fame and fortune, which is striving after the wind. Instead, focus on cultivating quietness with the guidance of God, the Holy Spirit, who dwells within you. Seek those things which are eternal.
