Hope keeps us steady when the days grow long.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verses are 2 Thessalonians 3:5 & 3:13: “Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ… But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.”
Paul knew the hearts of the Thessalonian believers.
He knew their pressures.
He knew their weariness.
He knew the confusion caused by false teaching
and the discouragement caused by disorderly brethren.
So he prayed for them.
Not that their circumstances would change,
but that their hearts would be directed
into two unshakable realities:
the love of God
and
the patience of Christ.
The love of God
is not measured by your performance.
It is rooted in His eternal purpose —
foreknown, predestined, called, justified, glorified.
A love that stretches from eternity past
into eternity future.
A love that does not waver
with your failures or your frailty.
And the patience of Christ
is the steady endurance
of the One who loved you,
died for you,
rose for you,
and now lives for you.
His steadfastness becomes your strength.
His endurance becomes your encouragement.
His faithfulness becomes your anchor.
Because of the persecutions and trials,
and the constant flow of false teaching,
some in Thessalonica had grown idle,
some had grown discouraged,
some had stopped working,
thinking the Lord’s return made daily labor unnecessary.
Others simply lost heart
under the weight of life in a fallen world.
But Paul’s word to them —
and to us —
is simple and steady:
Do not grow weary.
Do not lose heart.
Do not drift into idleness.
Do not let the pressures of this age
pull you away from the hope that sustains you.
We are not strengthened
by looking at the world.
We are strengthened
by looking at Christ.
So, dear brothers and sisters,
as we wait for the blessed hope,
as we walk through long days
and heavy seasons,
as we serve in quiet places
and unseen ways —
Stay the course.
Keep your eyes focused on the Blessed Hope
All the while, being guided by the Holy Spirit
into the love of God
and into the patience of Christ
that is by faith in the gospel of grace
And in due season,
you will reap.

Meditation:
The love of God steadies us,
and the patience of Christ strengthens us.
Reflection Question:
Where do you feel weary today,
and how might the love of God
and the patience of Christ
renew your strength?
