As Paul continues describing the marks of a Spirit‑formed life,
he now turns from affection and honor to the energy, urgency, and
devotion that should characterize our service within the Body of Christ.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Romans 12:11: “…not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord…”
Paul is still speaking
to the redeemed community—
to those who share one Spirit,
one calling,
one Lord,
one Body.
These words are not about
general enthusiasm for life.
They are about the posture
we bring to one another
as members of Christ’s Body.
“Not lagging in diligence”
means we do not grow sluggish
in our care for one another.
We do not wait for someone else
to step in.
We take initiative.
We move toward needs.
We stay alert
to opportunities to serve.
“Fervent in spirit”
is not emotional hype.
It is the inward fire
of the Spirit’s work—
a warmth,
a readiness,
a holy eagerness
to build up the Body
we belong to.
And “serving the Lord”
reminds us
that every act of service
toward another believer
is ultimately service
offered to Christ Himself.
Dear brothers and sisters,
our fellowship is not limited
by distance,
time,
or circumstance.
Even when separated,
we pray,
we encourage,
we give,
we teach,
we support—
because the life we share
is the life of Christ.
This is our calling.
This is our joy.
This is our main focus of service:
to build up the members
of His Body
with diligence,
with fervency,
and with wholehearted devotion
to the Lord we serve.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Ro 12:11.
Meditation:
May our hearts be diligent in every good work.
May the Holy Spirit fill us with warmth, strength, and holy vitality.
May He teach us to serve one another as those who serve Christ Himself.
May our zeal remain steady, our love remain active, and our service remain joyful for the good of His Body. Amen.
Reflection Question:
Where is God inviting you to step forward with renewed diligence, warmth, or service toward another member of Christ’s Body?
