Confidence grows when eternity is in view.
Paul wrote these words to the Corinthian believers to anchor their confidence in the certainty of being with Christ.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 5:8: “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
Paul writes, “We are confident… to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
This is the believer’s settled assurance:
our future is secure because we belong to Christ,
members of His Body and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
Paul knew the frailty of the mortal body.
He felt sorrow’s weight, carried the burden of ministry,
and bore the wounds that come through human relationships.
Yet none of these diminished his confidence.
Why?
Because Paul knew that the moment he left this earthly body,
he would be present with the Lord.
This is not wishful thinking.
This is not a vague hope.
It is certainty, anchored in the finished work of Christ
and secured by God’s promise
to all who have believed the gospel of grace.
Dear brothers and sisters, this is the heart of Paul’s message:
confidence grows when eternity is in view.
We live in a world marked by decay, disappointment, and difficulty.
Bodies weaken.
Relationships strain.
Circumstances shift.
Sorrow visits every home.
But none of these things define our future,
determine our destiny,
or diminish the believer’s hope.
Our confidence rests in this truth:
to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Paul was not morose.
He was not despairing.
He was not weary of life itself.
He understood that being with Christ is the believer’s true home and greatest joy.
This hope does not pull us away from faithful living;
it strengthens us for it.
It steadies our confidence, shapes our perspective,
and reminds us that every day we remain in this earthly body
is appointed by God for His glory and purpose.
So, when Paul says, “we are confident,”
he is calling believers to live with assurance
that rests in the certainty of being with Christ.
He wrote to the Philippian believers:
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21, NKJV)
Your confidence today is strengthened
as you remember your future with Christ.
Let eternity steady your heart.
Let God’s promise in the gospel of grace quiet your fears.
Let the certainty of being with Him anchor you as you walk through the realities of this life.
