Good morning. Today’s Bible verse is Romans 12:3: “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.”

Paul now shifts from an emphasis on personal surrender to a focus on personal perspective.
How we see ourselves shapes how we serve others.

This is not a call to selfloathing.
It is not an invitation to endless introspection.
It is not a command to deny the gifts God has given to us.
It is an appeal to sober thinking.

A call to see ourselves truthfully.
A call to remember that everything we have is by God’s grace.

Pride exaggerates our importance.
Fear minimizes it. Grace puts it in its proper place.

To “think soberly” means clear, grounded, disciplined thinking.
It means understanding who we are in relation to God and to others—not inflated, not diminished, but measured by the faith He has given.

Sober thinking frees us from comparison.
It frees us from competition.
It frees us from the pressure to prove ourselves.

Dear brothers and sisters, this truth now turns toward how we live it out. When we think clearly, we can serve freely in the Body.
We can rejoice in others’ gifts.
We can move confidently in our own.
We can remember that the Body of Christ needs every member, not just a few.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself.
It is thinking rightly about yourself.
It is remembering that grace is the source of everything good in us.
When the gospel of grace directs our thinking,
Jesus Christ, the Head of the Body, directs our living.

The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Ro 12:3.

Meditation:
Let us praise our God for the grace that saves, equips, and sustains us.
May this truth guide us to think clearly, walk humbly, and serve faithfully.
As we grow in God’s wisdom and grace, may we see ourselves as members of the Body—neither inflated nor diminished, but rooted in grace.
Amen.

Reflection Question:
What is God showing you today, and how is that truth shaping your walk with Him and with others?
