Hold fast to this truth:
The world keeps searching, but believers find true contentment by faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ — plus nothing.
Good morning. Today’s Bible verses are Ephesians 4:17–19:
“…the Gentiles walk in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God… who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness…”
When we look at our culture today, Paul’s words seem just as true now as they were then. We see a world following its own thinking, with clouded understanding, hearts far from God, and desires chasing things that never truly satisfy. Our culture praises human achievement but ignores the Creator. It calls pleasure freedom and keeps searching for meaning in everything except the God who made us.
Dr. Francis Schaeffer once said that Western society is focused on “personal peace and affluence.” That description still fits today. People look for comfort, entertainment, distraction, and self-expression, hoping these things will finally give them peace. But the more they search, the less they find. Their food does not satisfy. Their clothes do not bring comfort. The inner peace they want keeps slipping away.
The world is always seeking — but never finding.
Dear brothers and sisters, while the world looks for fulfillment in many empty places, we in the Body of Christ have something far better. Peace with God does not come from our own efforts, moral progress, or cultural success. It comes through the gospel of Christ, the gospel of grace. By trusting in what Jesus has done, we receive forgiveness, reconciliation, and a right relationship with God.
As we live in this world, we do not rely on self-improvement or religious effort. We live by faith. We leave behind our old ways and take on the new. Each day, we learn to find our contentment not in changing cultural values, but in Christ, who is our life.
True contentment is found by faith in the gospel of Christ, plus nothing.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Eph 4:17–19.
Meditation:
Lord, keep my heart from chasing the empty promises of this world. Teach me to walk by faith and find my contentment in Christ alone.
Reflection Question:
Where are you tempted to seek satisfaction apart from Christ?
